I see it has been almost a month since my last post. What can I say? I’ve been busy. The worst part is, I had several things to write about at one point or another, but I never actually got around to it. So, in a pathetic attempt to somehow make up for lost time, here are several things that happened recently that I never got around to writing about:
*My kitten, Jackson, died. Sorry to start out on such a downer but this happened a while ago and I just never got around to the cathartic process of expressing my grief on my internet blog so I might as well now. Actual, I don’t even think I ever mentioned I had a kitten. I got him at the end of July. It was a spur of the moment thing: I hadn’t planned on getting a cat but he was just too cute; we connected. Long story short is that he was the awesomest kitten ever. But then his FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) caught up with him and he had to be put to sleep. It was really really really sad, but I’m glad I got to give him a home for a little while and hopefully made his life a little better. He had the cutest way of walking up to you on the couch or in bed and then all of a sudden just flopping down and kinda leaning against you. His was probably already sick when I got him but they can’t detect it and there is nothing they can do to treat it so we decided to put him down. Maybe I will post a home video of him later so you can appreciate just how cute he was.
*Enough sad news! Some happy news is the my birthday was this past month (Nov. 16th). I’m 24 now: undeniably into my MID-twenties. Scary.
*The new Materials Science & Engineering building at UVa opened. It is supposed to be specifically for nano-technology and it is really sweet. It is too bad they don’t have a freight elevator yet so all the lab equipment can be moved in, but oh well, it still looks really nice.
*While I’m talking about new buildings opening, the new John Paul Jones Arena opened, as well. It is where all the UVA basketball games are and where they have been having lots of concerts recently. I actually wrote up a really long and entertaining post about being there for the first game against Arizona (we won!), but it was mysteriously lost in some internet snafu. Here were the highlights: lots and lots of screens everywhere; fire; fireworks; the “Let’s get ready to ruuuuummmmbbblllllleeeee guy!”; and did I already mention we won?
*Thanksgiving happened. It was wonderfully delicious. I got to go home to Atlanta, see lots of old friends, spend time with my ~7 month old niece and the rest of my family, and eat lots of amazing food.
*And most recently I have been very busy with end of the semester projects. Thermodynamics and I have gotten to know each other very well this past week.
I guess that is it. Too bad I didn’t stay more on top of things. Some of those sure would have made some entertaining/insightful/hilarious/interesting/poignant posts.
Been listening to this one a lot, pretty much the whole way through.
This novel was published after the Chilean-Mexican author's death, and I'm not even sure if it was entirely finished or not. It is broken up into five parts which, while connected, stand pretty much on there own. I have not yet made it to the grim part about the murders of hundreds of women in Mexico, so I have so far found it enjoyable and even funny despite some dark underpinnings. It's had a ton of critical praise, and I like it much more than my last foray into the violent novel genre: Blood Meridian.
