This past Saturday my good friend Clint married the lovely Sally Ann in Richmond, VA. I had the great honor of being the best man, though I probably got away without doing as much work as is typically required of a best man since I had no clue what I was doing.
Still, the weekend was a LOT of fun and I got to see many of my friends from college (Haygood, you were missed).
Clint and I got to know each other very well in college. We were both Civil Engineers which meant we took the majority of our classes together our last three years. We also lived together for these three years (our 2nd year in an apartment on JPA and our 3rd & 4th years in the house at 214 14th Street). This of course involved many hours of playing Halo, watching movies, and an occasional homework/problem set.
It was with my friend Clint that counted down through the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies list. Though we plan to keep up with our movies by watching the new additions to the 10th Anniversary AFI list, I don’t think either of us will ever again experience something quite as memorable as our one hundred movie countdown. Clint even thought it worthy of mention in his wedding program (his favorite: Unforgiven; mine: Lawrence of Arabia).
Of course, the event also gave Emily and I a lot to think about in planning our own wedding next June. It made me realize how many little things there are to worry about besides the big, obvious ones, and how much goes on in those last few days leading up to the wedding (and probably last few weeks).
Besides seeing all of my great friends and being part of such a special event, another highlight of the weekend was seeing the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. I’ve seen some nice hotels before but this place was is the coolest one I’ve ever seen. By the way, if you click on that link to visit the hotel’s website and see the picture of the couple standing on the balcony…that was exactly where Clint and Sally Ann stayed the night of their wedding. Clint was such a sweetie when he was checking in that the lady at the desk gave him a free upgrade to the Governor’s Suite – not too shabby.
Been listening to this one a lot, pretty much the whole way through.
This novel was published after the Chilean-Mexican author's death, and I'm not even sure if it was entirely finished or not. It is broken up into five parts which, while connected, stand pretty much on there own. I have not yet made it to the grim part about the murders of hundreds of women in Mexico, so I have so far found it enjoyable and even funny despite some dark underpinnings. It's had a ton of critical praise, and I like it much more than my last foray into the violent novel genre: Blood Meridian.

When you gonna done put up some photos?
Do you mean wedding photos? Because I’m not sure I done took any. I took my camera with me to Richmond, but I wasn’t about to carry it around with me in my tux. Besides, I was too busy gettin’ down on the dance floor to be taking any pictures.
any photo-graphs – wedding ones, beach ones, more of the posters on your wall or the street sign outside of your apartment – those were fun.
OK, you win! I’ve put up some new pictures.
Brock – Thanks for the glowing review! You were a HUGE part of a wonderful weekend and I couldn’t have asked for a better best man. Now get back to planning your wedding! Have you called the cake maker yet? Picked out the tuxes? Put the down payment on them? Bought groomsmen gifts? Booked the honeymoon? It begins…
