Joost

I was reading an article the other day about the hottest invite-only websites today. Not being in the know, I had not heard of any of them, but at the top of the list was Joost. The name was intriguing enough for me to check it out.

So what is Joost? As the Joost website says, it’s “the new way of watching TV – all the things you love about TV, fused with all the fun an interactive power of the internet.”

Joost Screen shotsYou just download a little program that lets you go to the Joost website and watch channels like Comedy Central, CNN, MTV, VH1, and many others. They even have channels like “The Really Terrible Film Channel” and “Transformers” which has the old Transformer cartoons on it. I haven’t looked at it enough to know, for example, if the Comedy Central channel has ALL of the Comedy Central programing. Joost doesn’t show live TV, but on-demand TV, so you can pick what you want to watch, when you want to watch it. However, I haven’t looked at it enough to know, for example, if the Comedy Central channel has ALL of the Comedy Central programing. Still, this holds much promise for someone like me who doesn’t have cable.

But to download Joost you have to be invited. Or so I thought.

Taking a hint from the Joost website, I did a search for “Joost blogs” and came across an blog entry that led me here, a page on the Joost site that lets you invite yourself. I’m not sure why they have this if it is invite-only, but I think it is some kinda of promotion or something. Give it a try.

There is also the regular download page, which might be public by now.

And if for some reason this promotion ends and you still want an invite to give it a try, let me know.
