A Little About Me
My name is Brock and I live in Charlottesville, VA, though I originally hail from Atlanta, GA (Peace up, A-town down). I came to Charlottesville to go to college at the University of Virginia where I majored in Civil Engineering. After a brief stint in Brownsville, TX teaching high school physics, I came back to UVA to get my master’s in Materials Science & Engineering. But in the process, I also got married to a wonderful girl named Emily. Being the perpetual student that I am, I will be going to law school in August, but in the mean time I should have plenty of time to update this site.
What Is 214 Studios?
This is my personal site where I occasionally blog about my life, movies I’ve seen, things I’ve read on the internet, or whatever strikes my fancy.
My friend Clint and I started this website mainly as a way to post videos chronicling the many misadventures and crazy antics occuring in and around our house in college. Despite the many hours of random footage I filmed during the last year and a half living at our house, the videos have been few. I do hope, however, to post more at some point in the future.
I started blogging mainly as a way to allay my frustrations for never updating the site. As I am sure you can tell if you have read it, it has no real point or objective. It is mostly random snippets from my life which is most likely of little to no interest to anyone else, and brief comments and links to various stuff on the internets. I’m OK with that.
The “100 Years…100 Movies” section of the website is a memorial to all the time Clint and I spent watching the 100 greatest movies as listed by AFI and as a way to spread the word about good films.
214 14th Street
The “214″ in 214 Studios comes from the address of the house where my friends and I lived for our last two years of college at the University of Virginia. There were as many fifteen guys living there at one time – no, it wasn’t a frat house, but you can see a picture of it at the top of this page. With so many of us living there we had many interesting and good times, but mostly we just played video games.
At various places on the site you may see the term “Housequake”. This word was stolen from the Prince song “Housequake” to be used as a nickname for our house at 214 14th Street. Don’t ask me why. I guess it just sounded cool.
Website Design
The design for this site was achieved using a Wordpress theme called Thesis. I highly recommend it.
Been listening to this one a lot, pretty much the whole way through.
This novel was published after the Chilean-Mexican author's death, and I'm not even sure if it was entirely finished or not. It is broken up into five parts which, while connected, stand pretty much on there own. I have not yet made it to the grim part about the murders of hundreds of women in Mexico, so I have so far found it enjoyable and even funny despite some dark underpinnings. It's had a ton of critical praise, and I like it much more than my last foray into the violent novel genre: Blood Meridian.
