What I’ve Been Up To Lately

It’s been a busy summer so far, so let me update you on a few things:

I moved. For the past year Emily and I were living in a townhouse. It was quite lovely. The whole townhouse complex was populated by other grad students and young professionals – a nice change from undergrads peeing off the balcony above your front door.

Book Review: American Prometheus

I knew little about Oppenheimer before reading this book. Known as “the father of the bomb” for his role as director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory which created the first atomic bomb, Oppenheimer was a fascinating individual and regarded as such by virtually everyone who knew him – scientists, generals, and politicians among them.

What I’m Reading

I’m currently reading Hilter’s Scientists: Science, War, and the Devil’s Pact by John Cornwell. The book tackles extremely important issues regarding the role of scientists within a society and their political and moral obligations. I found myself thinking that the introduction alone would have made a fantastic reading assignment in my undergraduate engineering ethics courses.
