A Great Day for Music Fans

A public beta version of Amazon’s music download store, Amazonmp3, is now out. The best part about it is that the music is DRM-free.

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, and DRM-free music can be played on any mp3 player, computer, or other device. The presence of DRM on music sold from iTunes is what prevented me from buying much music at all from Apple. Even when iTunes started offering DRM-free version of some songs (sold at a premium of $1.29 per song, but also in a higher bit rate), I still did not buy – mainly because it was not immediately obvious to me where these version could be found on iTunes and I was too lazy to find out.

I happened to look at my Picasa page today and was surprised to see an announcement in the sidebar: “New Features! Search Picasa community photos…”

Picasa

I have now plunged into the world of online photo albums. I know there are a lot of websites out there that let you post your photos, but I opted for using Google’s Picasa without doing much research on what was available.
But I must say that Picasa is pretty cool.
