AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies
1997 List | 2007 List
Background
In 1998, the American Film Institute (AFI) chose and ranked the one hundred greatest American films of the past century. Criteria included critical recognition, popularity over time, historical significance, cultural impact, and recognition from competitive award festivals. During our second year in college, my friend Clint and I set out to watch all 100 films counting down to #1. Our goal was to finish the countdown before graduation. Two and a half years later, we watched our one hundredth movie only days before graduation. If you’re looking for a good movie to watch, look no further than this list.
On June 20th, 2007, the AFI aired a special on CBS to reveal an updated list of the 100 greatest movies of the past one hundred years. There were some new additions to the list, as well as a change in position of almost every film.

Been listening to this one a lot, pretty much the whole way through.
This novel was published after the Chilean-Mexican author's death, and I'm not even sure if it was entirely finished or not. It is broken up into five parts which, while connected, stand pretty much on there own. I have not yet made it to the grim part about the murders of hundreds of women in Mexico, so I have so far found it enjoyable and even funny despite some dark underpinnings. It's had a ton of critical praise, and I like it much more than my last foray into the violent novel genre: Blood Meridian.
